Matchbook Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 Dunnigan Hills, California
Cabernet, Petit Verdot, Malbec
Dark fruit and spice jump out of the glass in this Cabernet. The mid palate has savory notes of black olives, mineral and finishes with a ton of structure from barrel aging and extended maceration. This is such a great example of what Cabernet can be from an up and coming AVA in Dunnigan Hills. Dunnigan Hills is Northeast of Napa Valley by Lodi. It tends to be warmer there so grapes like Cabernet can really shine. What draws me to this wine is that the alcohol is below 14%, something you don’t really see a lot in warmer climates. This allows the wine to show restrained fruit and balanced structure without getting too over ripe. This is truly a fun wine to drink.
Pair with grilled or roasted meats, hearty vegetable dishes or pastas with big flavors.
