Rombauer Carneros Chardonnay 2018
This chardonnay has all the classical attributes that we’ve come to know and love from Rombauer. Up front fruit with stone fruit and tree fruit taking the lead, toasty notes from the oak and roundness giving the wine great structure. The big difference is the presence of acidity in the finish that keeps this powerful Chardonnay in complete balance. This is the best showing from Rombauer I’ve seen in a long time.
This wine is great by itself, but the balance makes it a no-brainer for white fish with beurre blanc or scallop and mushroom risotto. Vegetarian options could be mushroom risotto or a root vegetable gratin with breadcrumbs.
